Horseback riding

Start the day riding to the top, and make it an early start if you don’t want to find crowds along the beach at Monolithos. If the full two-and-a-half hours ride sounds a little too much for you, ask to do the short ride of just an hour to the nearby beach at Exo Gonia. After your morning dash, visit Panagia Episkopi, the most important Byzantine monument on the island. A swim at Kamari and as soon as the sun begins to go down, a walk round Messa Gonia. Strolling around the house ruins deserted by the villagers after the earthquake of 1956 you can still see some traces of their daily lives here. If there’s time, make your way down to see the sunset from Faros-the lighthouse-at Akrotiri. Take the road on the other side of the mountain, which comes out at the Pyrgos crossroads and continue towards Akrotiri. Instead of turning left into the village, go straight following the sights to the lighthouse (Faros).

Sailing

3-300x172

Cross the caldera in a private sailing boat, and according to individual preferences, view and amble over the twisted cliffs and enter the remains of a castle that dates back to the Venetian domination of the island. Stopping points can include a swim at the, rich in minerals and sulfur, hot springs and the quiet isle of Thirassia with its unusual pink church and tranquil environment. Weather permitting you can visit the nearby island of Ios and then back to Santorini. Journey is about 8 hours long or can be cut in half.
